Laugh, cry, eat, repeat. No, we’re not talking about going through a bad breakup. We’re talking about the emotional rollercoaster that is watching the long-anticipated Academy Awards. Year after year, we put on our finest pair of sweatpants, pour ourselves a glass of bubbly, and sit back to enjoy the show. But this year, we decided to take it up a notch, or two.
So we teamed up with the experts over at Sonos to create a picture-perfect screening room with sound as good as Ryan Gosling looks. Read on for our tips to creating an Oscar-worthy set up here!
No recliners? No problem!
Since most people don’t have the luxury of their own personal, at-home screening room, a cozy den is often the next best thing. Rather than springing for theater-style recliners, opt for an upholstered ottoman. Not only will this add extra seating, but it’ll also provide a place for you to place snacks and beverages.
A bar cart = easy access
And speaking of snacks, what better time to indulge in king-size candy bars and buttery, movie theater popcorn than this fancy evening in? We recommend setting up a snack station on your bar cart for easy access to tasty treats. This will also prevent you from making countless trips to and from the kitchen and potentially missing the show.
The Academy Award for Best Signature Drink goes to…
You! It’s time to put on your mixologist hat and pour your guests something strong. Or better yet, create a signature drink to go along with the theme of one of the nominated flicks. Here, we went with an Old Fashioned to embody the old Hollywood spirit of La La Land. Of course, make sure to have a bottle of bubbly handy as well.
Crisp and clear sound
In order to achieve a supreme sounding set-up, we went with the Sonos 5.1 surround sound system, which consists of the Playbar, Sub and 2 PLAY:1 speakers. With Sonos, you can set your home theater system up however you want, in any room thanks to Trueplay. Trueplay analyzes room size, layout, décor, speaker placement, and any other acoustic factors that can impact sound quality. Then it literally adjusts how each woofer and tweeter produces sound. Now bring on the sweet, sweet sound of Gosling!”
Give everyone a good view
Pick seating of varying heights to ensure that everyone has a clear view of the screen. Arrange bar stools in the back, then your sofa and arm chairs with floor pillows for those closer to the screen. Encourage guests to come dressed in cozy attire to make lounging comfortable.
