How to Bring Serious Style to Your Pool This Summer

By: Sarah Beaumont

No matter whether you’re seven or seventy, there’s one summer activity that nearly everyone can agree on: chilling at the pool. Whether you’re lucky enough to have a pool in your own backyard or you’re getting wet and wild at parties all summer, bringing style to your swimming palace elevates the experience for everyone. So slather on the sunscreen and pull out the pool floats, because these splashy styles are a recipe for fun in the sun.

There’s nothing like taking a dip on a hot, sunny day followed by a few hours of poolside lounging. When dining tables, striped umbrellas, and brightly colored chaise lounges are added to the mix, it’s like you’re on a permanent vacation. We prefer pink for the way it pops and reminds us of luxe poolsides like the one at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Float Away

A pool without a quirky floatation device is like a beach without sand. From swans to unicorns to slices of pizza and donuts, inflatable pool floats are not just for kids anymore. Take a look at Instagram — pools from Palm Springs to Miami are donning brightly colored floats. Keep them in your pool all season or bring them on your next vacation for Instagram-worthy summer shots.

Whether it’s a simple cabana or a full-blown pool-house, consider adding a waterside structure for guests to change into their suits and/or escape from the sun. We love big barn doors, which are great for an indoor-outdoor feel.  Pool houses and sheds are also great for storing lounge chairs, ping pong tables and other gear when not in use.

Stop. Hammock time. That’s basically the thought process when you come face to face with a hammock hanging over a turquoise pool of water. String up a bedecked jute lounger to recreate the bohemian vibes of a Carribean vacation in your own backyard.

A pool with a place to eat al fresco beside it is a perfect recipe for a summer party. But a pool with a full outdoor kitchen and bar? That’s our idea of the perfect summer hang.

Big banana leaves, palms, and tropical shrubs — adding lots of greenery to the pool area makes it feel like your own tropical oasis. Further the vacation vibes with daybeds, fountains, and all-natural additions like stones.
