“Taking tea” is often considered a hobby reserved for old-fashioned English women, but we find that a warm cup of tea is an excellent way to unwind — especially when sipped in a chic atmosphere.
We searched high and low and found 7 elegant tea rooms that are making the timeless hot beverage cool again. Pinkies up — we’re sipping tea in style!
7. The Gryphon Tea Room, Savannah, GA
The Gryphon Tea Room has been a hotspot for students and professors from Savannah College of Art and Design since it opened its doors in the ’90s. It’s housed inside an elaborate Scottish Rite temple, decked out with rows of bookshelves that make it the perfect place to sip tea and study the afternoon away.
6. Huxington Tea House, Shanghai, China
Situated in Old Shanghai, the Huxington Tea House is a beautiful pagoda-style building built on stilts in the middle of a pond. You reach the tea house by walking across a zig-zag bridge, strategically crafted to keep bad spirits away. While the tea house is pretty magnificent at all hours of the day, it’s especially charming lit up in the evenings.
5. Crown & Crumpet, San Francisco, CA
Crown & Crumpet removes the stuffiness associated with typical tea houses for a vibe that’s nothing but fun! Vibrant floral patterns spot the cushions, tables, and walls while pastel hues and fun patterns complement the delicious treats that accompany tea time.
4. Tu Hwnt l’r Bont Tearoom, Conwy, UK
The Tu Hwnt l’r Bont Tearoom, which appropriately translates to “beyond the bridge”, is about as close as you can come to stepping into a fairytale. Originally built in 1480, the ancient dwelling has been restored over and over again, finally becoming the charming cottage tea house it is today.
3. The Palm Court at the Drake, Chicago
If you would like a side of celebrity sightings along with your cup of tea, the Palm Court is the place to be. It’s not just any celebrity that enjoys the custom tea blends, sterling silver, and lavish décor, but royalty such as the Empress of Japan and Kate Middleton. High tea is definitely taken here.
2. Mad Hatters, Chester, UK
When many of us think of tea parties, the first thing that comes to mind is the Mad Hatter’s epic soireé in Alice in Wonderland and this tea room captures the spirit of the whimsical party perfectly. The upside down furnishings glued to the ceiling are probably evidence enough.

Once a sumptuous mansion, the Jacquemart-André Museum now houses a large collection of art as well as this stunning tea room. By far the most beautiful tea room in all of Paris, it boasts bright pink walls, invaluable art, and delectable teas and treats.
