INTERVIEW

L&W: Thanks for coming in today! Tell us a little about yourself and how you work.

KW: Of course! I was born and raised Los Angeles, and now I live in Santa Monica. My place is right by the beach and I work from home, so you could say I basically work on the beach. Last night was the winter solstice and there was the most beautiful sunset – it was incredible!

L&W: We saw that too. Is your design style at all influenced by where you live in Santa Monica?

KW: To be honest, I get most of my inspiration from magazines. My favorites are Elle Decor and Architectural Digest. Architecture really inspires me. That is why I love Los Angeles. There is not just one style of architecture – not Spanish, not modern, but an eclectic mix of everything.

L&W: How did you begin your profession as an Interior Designer?

KW: Interior design has always been a passion of mine. I worked in advertising before this, and I really enjoyed the creative aspects of it. But I decided to follow the saying “make your passion your profession” and made the switch to interior design three years ago.

L&W: You worked in advertising before this? That’s awesome. Would we recognize any ads you worked on?

KW: Yes, I worked on an Energizer Bunny commercial that still airs today!

L&W: What is your favorite thing about being an Interior Designer?

KW: I love that I get to help people be happy in their home and that someone else’s vision gets realized through my work. I really enjoy working with clients who have a vision and a big picture but don’t know how to execute it. They are the most fun to work with because they get just as excited as you do when you find the perfect pieces.

L&W: What is your favorite project that you’ve worked on for Laurel & Wolf?

KW: Probably the “tween” girl’s bedroom contest that I won. Working with kids is the best because you get to be really creative and bold. She wanted a pink and black bedroom that was young and playful, so I had a lot of fun putting the design together. Most people want a serene and calming bedroom, but kids are more quirky and like things like mohair stools. You can get away with items that are a little less practical which makes it fun!

L&W: Ok, last question. What is your #1 decorating tip to share with everyone?

KW: Definitely to paint with more bold colors. It’s not true that you can’t paint a small room a bold color – it will look great! Paint is the cheapest and easiest way to make a bold impact and it’s a low investment. If you don’t like it, you can always paint over it!

We hope you enjoyed meeting Kimberly – we sure did!

xo,

Laurel & Wolf
