Pastel pink paint, an old-school peg board, and photos of fashion collections past fill the walls of online retailer JustFab’s new and improved brand room. Looking at the sophisticated space, you’d never guess that underneath all that glam used to live a giant, floor-to-ceiling white board, which had definitely seen better days.
So, what was Laurel & Wolf Interior Designer Kimberly Winthrop’s biggest obstacle when designing the space?
“The walls for sure! A lot of them were stone or brick, which was tough for the look we were going for. Also finding out one wall had a whiteboard on it that couldn’t be removed,” says JustFab’s Director of Public Relations, Kira Cohen.
Though a coat of pale pink Valentine Memories paint from our partners at Paintzen went far in upgrading the walls, even more needed to be done to transform the space into the “fashion lounge” that they all wanted. Before, “[the room] was a working area of our office with desks and computers in it for the fashion and tech teams,” says Kira. Now, it’s used for everything from meetings with bloggers and product shoots, to brainstorming ideas for future collections.
Since the space has a multitude of purposes and is used by so many employees throughout the day, Kimberly had the tough task of making the space both functional and fashionable. On JustFab’s list of must-haves? “Plenty of seating and an area to display product and mood boards,” says Kira.
So, in order to satisfy their seating needs, Kimberly chose multi-functional furniture. At the center of the room, three benches form a giant coffee table, which acts as a great place to kick up your feet and relax, or to display inspiring coffee table books.
When it comes time to get down to business though, the coffee table doubles as added seating for employees. And while practicality was extremely important, the team couldn’t help but fall in love with the playful egg chair, which has been perfect for capturing shareable moments when bloggers stop by. “It is such a fun touch and makes every meeting one where we can remember to not take ourselves too seriously and have some fun,” says Kira.
The newly designed brand room seamlessly blends fashion and fun, just like the company itself. “We love that it is a comfortable space that showcases our hard work, while providing an oasis to do the hard work. We are a fast fashion company, so we move really quickly. The space is a great place to catch your breath while also being surrounded and inspired by the work already created in months past,” says Kira.
